The first municipal power plant in Łódź consisting of two blocks: EC1 East, launched in 1907, and EC1 West, added in the interwar period. After the war, the Łódź Power Plant was transformed into a heat and power plant and thus served the inhabitants of Łódź until the beginning of the 21st century. In 2008, the revitalization of the historic building located in the New Center of Łódź began.

Currently, it houses the most modern planetarium in Poland, the National Center for Film Culture, the Center for Comics and Interactive Narration created by the organizers of the International Festival of Comics and Games, as well as conference rooms and event halls, including the largest Art Nouveau Machine Hall (1,360 sq m).
