MUSEUM PALACE HERBSTA, BRANCH OF THE MUSEUM OF ART
The pearl of Łódź palaces, the impressive interior of the villa presenting the lifestyle of a wealthy factory family, and now a branch of the Museum of Art in Łódź, and one of the few systems in Europe that allow the blind to visit the museum on their own - this is how the Herbst Palace Museum can be briefly described.
The villa was built in 1876 for the daughter of the greatest entrepreneur in Łódź, Karol Scheibler - Matylda, and her husband Edward Herbst, who, after the death of his father-in-law, became the director of the Scheibler textile factory. The author of the design is the city architect Hilary Majewski, who gave it a unique form of a neo-renaissance residence. The aesthetic qualities of the villa are largely emphasized by the surrounding garden, which gives the whole layout the character of a country residence. The owners also built stables in the immediate vicinity of the residential building.
