If you need a visa when your HEI selects you as a candidate you should call/email the Embassy of the incoming country right away to schedule an interview which is mandatory for type D student visa. Usually wait is long and some students end up having to go back to their country to do the appointment and get visa during the Erasmus+ Mobility. It's easier to cancel a not needed appointment then to go back to get it. It's cheaper too.
